Steve Jobs and Apple introduced the first iPod October 23, 2001 and the world hasn't been the same since. It was the first commercially successful digital music player and evolved into an international phenomenon. Apparently, it's name was inspired by a line from the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" about the space ship's pod bay.
The initial iPod was inspired by disappointment some of Apple's staff felt for the clunky and difficult to use early MP players. That original iPod has multiplied into several models of various sizes, capabilities and appearances.
